DEAR RON PAUL SUPPORTERS,

On December 16th, 2007 you made political history -- raising over $6 million online in a single day. If Ron Paul were to win the nomination the credit will no doubt go to his passionate grassroots supporters and their incredible energy online -- and deservedly so.

Then, on December 17th, 2007 we (Mike Huckabee supporters) launched our own grassroots fundraising drive. Within hours we were receiving wave after wave of false pledges from obviously fake email addresses referencing perverse sex acts, insulting Mike Huckabee, and (you guessed it) telling us to vote for Ron Paul.

Viewed symbolically, December 17th might have been the bigger day.

If Ron Paul doesn't win the nomination there will be no one more to blame than many of his own supporters who give the very idea of freedom a bad name because of the way they abuse it. The rest of my comments are directed specifically to those supporters who have resorted to the Internet equivalent of guerilla tactics -- not to Ron Paul supporters in general.

You (speaking to the spammers) may liken yourselves to American revolutionaries, but your behavior is more reminiscent of Nazi tactics -- sending in hooligans to break into and disrupt political rallies for their opposition. In the name of liberty you are "doing as you please with other men, and the product of other men's labors". That is Abraham Lincoln's definition of "tyranny".

Mike Huckabee also has a strong grassroots campaign. Nevertheless we have always endeavored to communicate respect and good-will for our opponents and their supporters -- just as Mike Huckabee has done throughout the campaign. I have personally written letters congratulating you on your successes.

In essence we have two strong grassroots movements, one characterized by anger and cynicism*, and the other by compassion and hope. You've got us beat in money and organization, but the difference in the ballot box may boil down to character, and the way it is presented.

P.S. I realize that there are many respectable Ron Paul supporters out there. This letter is specifically addressed to those who have participated in spamming our fundraiser, as well as other similar and more serious offenses throughout the campaign.

* Again, this is specifically targeted at the supporters who participate in these kind of attacks. I am not saying that all Ron Paul supporters are angry and cynical. See my second letter below.

DEAR RON PAUL SUPPORTERS,

Since I wrote my first letter last night we have had both good and bad developments. The good included positive dialogue with many of you and the bad included increased spamming of the Dec27th.com fundraiser. In light of both these developments I feel it is important that I clarify a few things.

First, I am largely addressing an extreme fringe among Ron Paul's supporters. This is not an attack on Dr. Paul himself or on most of his supporters. Instead I am addressing that radical fringe (the size of which is largely unknown) that has more and more come to represent Ron Paul and his supporters to most Americans. Dr. Paul's greatest handicap is the rampant abuse of the very freedom he advocates.

Second, I am not revealing a secret failing in the Ron Paul campaign. It would be one thing if our experience was an isolated incident. The reason this behavior hurts Dr. Paul is because thousands and thousands of people have experienced similar abuse from these radicals. The problem is that while they do not represent all Ron Paul supporters, they do in fact represent Ron Paul supporters to most people. All of the rotten apples are on top in this case.

Thanks for listening.

Warm Regards,

P.S. I'm not sure where you got the idea that we are trying to compete with your moneybomb. Mike Huckabee has never raised as much money as the other candidates and he has never needed to.

DEAR RON PAUL SUPPORTERS,

I took this page down last week because I thought you had gotten the point -- namely, that your reckless, immature behavior was hurting Ron Paul and dooms your supposed "revolution" of love.

Apparently not.

On Christmas Day several hundred of you left over 300 fake pledges worth over $700,000. This was the most concerted attack on our fundraiser yet, and you did it on a day when most decent people would be focused on family and friends -- not politics. You obviously were waiting for a a day when I wouldn't be around to screen out your fake pledges -- and I trusted you to respect Christmas.

Before I have said that Ron Paul's greatest handicap is the reckless abuse of the freedom he advocates. Now I also believe that you spammers are examples of where Ron Paul's ideology takes ordinary people. The #1 response I have received from you spammers is the question, "How can freedom be abused? It's freedom."

That's why we have no common ground. That's why Ron Paul's "revolution" is doomed to failure. Whether the rotten apples in the Ron Paul barrel outnumber or overpower the good ones -- the result is the same.

Thanks for listening.

Sincerely,

Brett Harris
